چکیده

Scrub typhus is endemic in regions of eastern Asia and the southwestern Pacific (Korea to Australia) and from Japan to India and Pakistan. It is estimated that there are about one million cases of this disease each year (Vas and Gupta, 2006). This illness is caused by Orientia (formerly Rickettsia). Orientia tsutsugamushi, an obligate intracellular Gram negative bacterium, which was first isolated in 1930. The causative organism is transmitted to human beings by the bite of a larval Leptotrombidium mite (chigger). ISSN: 2319-7706 Special Issue-1 (2015) pp. 101-109 http://www.ijcmas.com
